Week of March 16-18

This week in Kindergarten...

This week we learned about the letter D. We practiced the letter sound and writing the letter D by participating in a letter D write the room. Ask me what words begin with the letter D.

We also celebrated St. Patrick's Day by reading How to Catch a Leprechaun and meeting Larry the Leprechaun! He sure loved to talk about his gold! We also completed a visual journal prompt that said "If I found a pot of gold I would..." by drawing a picture and labelling it.

We ended the week by reading the story The Dark by Robert Munsch and showed our story comprehension by drawing and labelling the beginning, middle and end of the story. Ask me to tell you all about it!

Week of March 9-13

 This week in Kindergarten...

We started this week by learning about the letter "H" and the sound it makes. In our visual journals we made hide and seek hippo houses out of the letter H. Inside we hid a hippo and two other things that begin with the letter H. We worked on labelling our pictures.

We also introduced the letter "U" and talked about the two sounds a U can make. We read the story Over and Under the Snow and talked about the different animals that live over and under the snow during the winter season. We continued working on problem solving using those winter animals and solved a math problem in our math journals using pictures and numbers.

We read the story Be Who You Are and It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr and worked on drawing self-portraits. We talked about adding detail to our pictures and making them look like our real selves! We can't wait for you to see them during conferences next week!

We a story about hibernating animals, drew pictures of animals that hibernate and labelled those pictures. Ask me about which animals hibernate.

We started our learning about bears. We talked about fiction versus non-fiction books and how we can tell which type of book is which. We then did a guided scientific drawing of a bear and labelled different parts of the bear.

In math, we read the story Bear Snores On and used the animals in the story to begin our work in problem solving. We used whiteboards and unifix cubes to practice our problems together for a few days. We will work on problem solving in our math journals next week.
