Check out our amazing dragon we created with the PM class for Lunar New Year!

This week in Kindergarten...

We began our week learning about the letter "K." We read a K story, practiced the sound it makes, as well as practiced printing the letter K by doing a K sort.

We celebrated Pink Shirt Day by joining the Kindness Club. We read the story The Kindness Book by Todd Parr and learned how to have a conversation with our friends about ways that we can show kindness. We each made a pink shirt that shows a way that we can be kind.

In math, we read the story 10 Black Dots by Donald Crews. We used 10 black dots to make our own picture that we added to a class book. We also tried sounding out the word of what we made.

Week of February 17-20

 This week in Kindergarten...

With winter weather back in full force, please remember to dress for the weather. We will continue to go outside as weather permits. It's also really important to keep practicing doing up zippers, etc. to build independence.

Our letter this week was the letter "L." We read a story about the letter L, practiced writing it on whiteboards, as well as our fine motor journals. We brainstormed words that begin with the letter L, drew some pictures and copied the words that go with each one. Some of us even tried to sound out some of the words on our own!

We also learned about Lunar New Year - it is the year of the Fire Horse! We drew pictures about what we learned about Lunar New Year and practiced our labelling skills too! Ask me some things I learned about Lunar New Year.

In math, we have finally arrived a representing the number 10! We practiced representing the number 10 in the different ways we have been working on independently - including making tally marks all on our own. We nailed it!

 This week in Kindergarten...

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

We began this week learning about the letter V for Valentine's Day. We practiced the sound the letter v makes, as well as identifying words that begin with the letter v.

We also did a guided drawing of a love bug and wrote the word Valentine underneath it.

We ended Valentine's Day week with reading some different Valentine's Day books, as well as doing a journal writing activity where we drew and labelled things we love. We are working on recording the sounds we hear in our words - aiming for a beginning and an ending sound to each word.

Keeping with our letter G theme, we learned about groundhogs and read a story about Groundhog Day. We also made a groundhog craft that we took home.

Next we learned about the number 9. We represented 9 in a variety of ways.

We also practiced our story comprehension by reading the story The Missing Mitten Mystery and drew pictures for the beginning and ending of the story. We also began labelling our pictures using the letter sounds we know. Ask me what happened in our story this week.
