Week of November 17-21

We played in all sorts of weather this week. It is important, now that the weather is colder, that we come to school dressed to go outside. Please keep practicing with your child on getting winter ready independently. Please practice getting on jackets, zippers, snowpants, hats and mittens can be while at home. Thanks so much!

This week in Kindergarten...

I want to welcome Miss V to our classroom. She is a student teacher from St. Mary's University. Miss V will be with our class from now until December 4th. Miss V will return to our classroom once again in the spring. We are so excited to have her be a part of our classroom community.

This was a busy full week in kindergarten. This we jumped right into learning about new letters and numbers. We have been working hard on practicing the letters "T" and "F." We can identify words that begin with those letters. We practiced writing them in the air, on whiteboards and our fine motor journals. In our visual journals we drew mystery animals hidden behind a flap. We had to make good guesses about its peeking out tail for the letter T!

We also learned about the number 3. We practiced printing the number 3 on whiteboards using our rhyme: "Around the tree, around the tree, that is how you make a 3!" In our math journals we showed the number 3 in many different ways - pictures, a number line and a ten frame.

We also enjoyed some new toys during centre time - building with Minecraft blocks, kinetic sand, robots, Lego and paint.

 This week in Kindergarten...

It was a very short week for us! Mrs. Bitz's classes joined together with Mrs. Rupert's classes to engage in an apple taste test. We used our senses to 4 different types of apples and then graph our favourite one. Ask me which kind of apple I liked the best.

We also learned about the number 2 - different ways to make two, what is a matching pair and learned a sock memory matching game. Students brought their game home to play with family.

Week of November 3-7

Brrrrrrrr.... It's cold outside! Please remember to dress for the weather as we will go outside every day that we can. Mittens work best for little hands. Please help your child learn how to independently do up their zipper. Wearing hats, mittens and winter boots will soon be a part of our daily routine.

This week in Kindergarten...

We started learning about the number 1. What does 1 look like? We read a silly story called How to Count to 1 and learned how to show the number 1 in different ways using a picture, ten frame and numeral.

We also continued our learning from last week with the letter "P" with P is for peace and poppies that supported our learning for Remembrance Day.

We also introduced the letter "A." Ask your child what sound an A makes. We worked on printing the letter A on our whiteboards.

Week of September 22-26

 This week in Kindergarten...

It was the first day of fall on Monday and we began talking about the season of fall by going on a fall walk around our school. We noticed the leaves that were turning yellow, fox tails, animal burrows and a tree that has now has fruit on it. After our walk, we drew fall trees and things we saw on our fall walk.

We continued with our theme of fall when learning our first math game - Roll and Colour - which helps us with subitizing and counting numbers while using a dice. Ask me how to play it!

We also practiced our fine motor skills using different lines on whiteboards to make a pumpkin on a vine.

Thank you to 3 Left Feet, the parents that came and watched our performance, as well as to Parent Council for the funding for our dance residency these past two weeks!

Week of September 15-19

This week in Kindergarten...

Wow! What a busy week! This week we started off with Dot Day by reading the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. Students were then asked what they could make from a circle using our visual journals for the very first time.

We also began practicing our cutting skills by making a scissor salad and feeding it to Blueberry! It was a lot of fun! Ask your child what they learned about how to use scissors.

We started exploring fall with a new playdoh centre where students used fall coloured playdoh to create different things. Kinders used different fall objects to stick in the playdoh like leaves, acorns and sunflowers.

To top it all off - we started our dance residency with 3 Left Feet! On Thursday, September 25th, parents are invited to watch us perform. See below for times. Ask your child what kind of bugs are in our dance.

Week of September 8-12

 This week in Kindergarten:

This was a great week of kindergarten - our first full week together! It was so nice to see so many families at our Open House last evening! We continued learning each other's names and played with some new centres. We started working in our fine motor journals this week, learned how to use glue doing rip art apples and leaves, and worked on our colouring skills by learning new colouring rules. Both AM and PM kindergarten classes also learned about Terry Fox and ran the Terry Fox run! Another BIG first for us this week was our first trips to the library, the gym and musicroom. Ask me which was my favourite new place to go in the school.

Looking Ahead:

TUESDAYS: This will be our library day for both AM and PM classes. Please make sure your child returns their book by this day each week to ensure they can get another one.

Important Dates to Remember:
